Honoring Our Trans Siblings

Today I honor our trans and gender expansive siblings who were taken from us and resolve to fight like hell for the living.

🏳️‍⚧️Transgender people are more than FOUR times more likely than non-trans people to experience violent victimization. This violence can also extend to cisgender people who don't meet normative gender stereotypes. (source: Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law)

🏳️‍⚧️In 2022, 83% of the victims of anti-trans violence were people of color. Black and trans women of color are especially at risk. (source: HRC)

🏳️‍⚧️This year over 520 anti-LGBTQIA2S+ bills were introduced in state legislatures and almost half target trans and nonbinary people. To date 70 of these proposed laws have been enacted, institutionalizing discrimination against our community. This has directly contributed to a rise in anti-trans hate crimes.

In honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance/Transgender Day of Resistance, I recommit to educating myself and acting in solidarity with our trans siblings.

Will you join me? 💙 💗 🤍
